How to choose a gift that gets used

This guide helps you understand which criteria to compare before you buy a product. We do not claim to have tested any product, and the guide contains no price or stock information.

Checklist

  1. Start from the person’s daily habits and hobbies, not from the price.
  2. Set a budget that includes shipping, gift wrapping and any customs costs.
  3. Check delivery dates against the occasion and order early for holidays.
  4. Choose stores that offer gift receipts or easy exchanges in case the size or colour is wrong.
  5. Consider experiences, subscriptions or gift cards when you are unsure of taste.
  6. Avoid engraving or personalisation if you may need to return the item.
  7. Check that the gift can be shipped to the recipient’s country.

Before you head to the store

Confirm the exact model number, whether it can be delivered to your address, the final total price, shipping costs, the return period and the seller's reliability directly with the store. For cross-border purchases, taxes, customs and warranty terms may differ.
