Booking a ferry ticket: what to check

This guide helps you understand which criteria to compare before you buy a product. We do not claim to have tested any product, and the guide contains no price or stock information.

Checklist

  1. Compare operators and crossing times on the same route; fast ferries cost more but save hours.
  2. Choose the right ticket type: deck, reclining seat or cabin for overnight crossings.
  3. If you take a car, enter its exact length and height; campers and trailers cost more.
  4. Check the check-in deadline, which can be 30–90 minutes before departure.
  5. Read the change and cancellation rules; the cheapest fares are often non-refundable.
  6. Check pet rules and whether pets must stay in the car or a kennel.
  7. In high season, book early: car spaces and cabins sell out first.

Before you head to the store

Confirm the exact model number, whether it can be delivered to your address, the final total price, shipping costs, the return period and the seller's reliability directly with the store. For cross-border purchases, taxes, customs and warranty terms may differ.
